Let’s Be Human
Because tomorrow will come
Suddenly we all know what “woke” means. But no — “woke” isn’t about giving everybody an equal chance. Nor is it about letting people be what they want to be. That’s “being human”.
“Woke,” if we’re looking to define the part that’s wrong with it, is the slightly coercive, crowd-following mindset whereby we all have to say and believe the correct thing. “Woke” requires us to signal that we agree with its virtues.
“Being human” is caring for people. Giving them all an equal chance. Letting them all be what they want to be. Giving us, I could say; letting us.
I hope all the companies that are, to quote my weekend newspaper, joining the “rush to ditch diversity targets as US executive orders take toll” — I hope all those companies will continue to hire people to do jobs.
Even though those companies are not human.
I hope the tech bore — sorry, bro — who said his company needed more “masculine energy” will work out before too long that “being human” is about giving people chances, not just men. If he wants “masculine energy”, maybe he should hire a personal trainer.
Oh, and I hope that people will continue to find acceptable jobs with these ridiculous companies, continue to accept jobs with them, and thus keep the companies going — at least until the world has moved on and all of today’s big corporate names have shrunk into history.
