Democracy isn’t working

Brexit was a disaster for the UK, and Remain would have been a disaster too. We were unhappy inside the EU, so we had the Referendum, and now we are unhappy outside the EU. The country is still split down the middle.

In the US, Roe v. Wade isn’t going to go away now that the Supreme Court has contradicted itself after fifty-odd years (relying on an even older legal document to do so). The lobbyists and pressure groups are back to work to reverse or defend this new Prohibition. All of them are armed.

We’ve lost the principle of losers’ consent. We no longer accept what the voters and lawgivers give us. As a result, democratic politics isn’t working. That’s the issue, surely?
